TEMPO! is a partnership between The
Pasadena Symphony, the Pasadena Unified School District and schools.
Designed and conceived by the Symphony in cooperation with teachers and
school principals, this program aims to increase music education
opportunities for students and their teachers, using both skills-based
instruction and the integration of music into the core curriculum. Through
the use of a music-infused curriculum, teacher training, school concerts,
resource provision, the B.E.AT guidebook for parents, and the TEMPO! 3rd
grade Recorder program, TEMPO! is in compliance with the State of
California's Visual and Performing Arts Standards.
MUSIC-INFUSED CURRICULUM
The TEMPO! Curriculum resource book features a series of lesson maps that
are based on sequential learning for children ages 6-8 and features
learning about the families of instruments, study of the elements of music
with links to children's literature and literacy themes and in third
grade, children learn to read music and play the recorder. Each lesson map
is story-based and provides the starting point to developing an
understanding in and through music. Activities, extensions, and teacher
tips accompany the lessons and further deepen connections across the
curriculum.
