Side-By-Side-By Symphony Auditions

Up to twenty young musicians will be chosen to play Side-by-Side with the Pasadena POPS Orchestra on September 5, 6 and 7, 2008 as part of the POPS summer concert series. The 65-member orchestra – under the musical direction of Maestra Rachael Worby – will perform under the stars for 2,000 patrons nightly at the lovely Descanso Gardens in La Cañada, California.
Winners will also receive two private lessons with a member of the orchestra, master class in performance, and be able to attend a seminar for parents and students
Audition applications are due Friday, March 21, 2008. Applicants will be notified of their audition times and location by telephone and/or e-mail.
Auditions will be held March 29 at Flintridge Preparatory School, 4543 Crown Ave., La Cañada, CA 91011, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The auditions are open to any string, brass, woodwind or percussion student of middle school or high school age or equivalent experience.
Audition Requirements:
• Prepare one 2-3 minute instrumental solo or excerpt.
• Performance from memory is NOT required.
• An accompanist is not necessary and will NOT be provided.
• Applicants are welcome to bring their own accompanist.
Also:
• Must be current California residents and live within a 100 mile radius of Pasadena, CA.
• Past Side-by-Side participants ARE ELIGIBLE to audition.
• Previous competition experience is not required.
• Private study is not required.
• Seriousness, ambition and curiosity are mandatory.
