WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Although attending the Pasadena Symphony is often a special occasion, tuxedos and evening gowns are not required. Many enjoy dressing formally for special events such as The Gala Ball, and other special engagements. However, most concertgoers dress in business or semi-casual attire. Wear whatever makes you comfortable!

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?
If you have tickets in hand, we recommend arriving 20-30 minutes before the concert is scheduled to begin. This gives you a chance to enjoy a refreshment, review the concert program and find your seats without feeling rushed. If you plan on purchasing tickets at the door please arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the concert. Ticket holders who arrive after the concert begins will be seated in the Hall only during appropriate pauses in the music. To participate in INSIGHTS pre-concert lectures, you should arrive one-hour before the concert begins and join us in the Civic Auditorium.

MAY I BRING CHILDREN?
Children 4 years of age and older are welcome at all performances with a purchased ticket. We do not recommend children under four attend Symphony concerts.

MAY I TAKE PICTURES?
The use of still, video and digital cameras or audio recording equipment is strictly prohibited at all times.

WHEN DO I APPLAUD?
It has become customary –probably from some post-Wagnerian influence—to refrain from applause until the end of a work.  (In Beethoven's time applause was earned... sufficient applause at the end of a movement would warrant a repeat of the section.)  So let your responses guide you.  If in doubt, wait for the conductor to turn around or just join in with the rest of the audience.

HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL PERFORMANCE?
Although concert length varies, most performances are about two hours, including one 20-minute intermission. Family concerts and other children's performances last one hour or less with no intermission.

HOW CAN I LEARN ABOUT THE MUSIC BEFORE THE CONCERT?
The Pasadena Symphony presents pre-concert lectures one hour prior to the concert to discuss composers or musical works featured in that day's concert. Program notes are provided in the program book you receive from the ushers upon entering the concert hall. You may want to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the performance to review the program notes. Program notes for many performances are also available online. You also can sign up to receive e-mail notifications about the Pasadena Symphony performances, events and promotions.
