Schneiderman CLASSICAL GUITAR AND LUTE PLAYER
“…a nimble player with a fast, light touch…”
–Soundboard
Critically
acclaimed virtuoso of plucked instruments, John Schneiderman specializes
in the performance practice and repertoire of eighteenth-century lutes and
nineteenth-century guitars. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics & Music from the
University of Wales, music degrees from the University of California and
the Royal College of Music and is a past president of The Guitar
Foundation of America.
Based in California, Mr.
Schneiderman is in demand as a soloist and chamber musicians collaborating
on recordings and performances throughout North America. Mr. Schneiderman
studied with British guitar pedagogue and author Frederick Noad, and
continued his studies at the Schola Catorum in Basel, Switzerland, with
the great modern pioneer of the baroque lute, Eugen Dombois. Mr. Dombois'
precise and detailed approach to the repertoire continues notably to
influence Schneiderman's interpretations today.
He is a member of the chamber
ensembles Galanterie and Les Deux Amis, and has performed with the Los
Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Baroque
Orchestra, Musica Angelica, Seattle Baroque , Chanticleer, Musica Pacifica
and the American Bach Soloists.
His extensive discography, much of it rarely or never before recorded lute
and guitar music, includes cds on the Titanic, Audioquest, Dorian, Centaur
and VGo labels. Mr. Schneiderman is on the faculties of the University of
California at Irvine, Irvine Valley College and the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music.

John Pisano JAZZ
GUITARIST
“…one of the top guitarists in the country.”
–Downbeat magazine
Recognized
as one of the nation's finest guitarist, John Pisano has an extremely
diverse background, having emerged on the jazz scene in the mid-50's. His
first recording in 1958 and 1959 was with the legendary Billy Bean and a
two-year stint with drummer Chico Hamilton (which at one time featured the
innovative reedist Eric Dolphy). Although John has occasionally stepped
forward to lead his own group, for years his "comfort zone" was the
background and John became an active member of the Los Angeles studio
scene, adding his special tough to groups let by Buddy DeFranco, Red
Norvo, Bud Shank and Benny Goodman. Additionally, John has accompanied in
concert or recording some of music's biggest names, including Peggy Lee,
Tony Clare Fischer, Julie London, Bobby Troup, Natalie Cole, Joe Pass,
Barbra Streisand and Diana Krall. John is a founding member of Herb
Alpert's Tijuana Brass and obtained some solid Brazilian experience
working with Sergio Mendes.
For nearly 40 years, John Pisano's playing has provided a model for
improvisational creativity, technical excellence, and a seamless blend of
jazz and latin elements. Today, John and his lovely vocalist wife, Jeanne
perform together regularly, and are known as "The Flying Pisanos" Both
together and individually, around the world with today's biggest musical
luminaries.

Anthony Wilson
JAZZ GUITARIST
Anthony Wilson is a composer-arranger-guitarist with a distinctive niche
in the jazz community since the release of his self-titled debut CD in
1997 and the follow-up Goat Hill Junket in 1998. Featuring crackerjack
nonets, the albums introduced an inspired composer and performer with a
fresh, identifiable voice. Wilson's five-horn charts were full of
memorable melodies, propulsive lines and sophisticated orchestration. No
less impressive was his playing; he produced a thick, resonant cut a la
Wes Montgomery and Django Reinhardt, spinning out soulful improvisations
with an air of inevitability.
Wilson's debut, Anthony Wilson, was cited by Jazz
Times, Jazziz, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Boston Herald
as one of 1997's ten best. It hit #1 on the Gavin Radio jazz charts, and
was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble
Performance category. His follow-up, Goat Hill Junket, was equally
embraced by critics. The Village Voice enthused, "He's the real
thing . . . with a voice and manner all his own . . . and a promise that
stretches to the horizon." And the Boston Herald called Wilson "as
inventive, swinging and entertaining a big band composer and arranger as
anyone working today."
Wilson comes by his deep understanding for the tradition
honestly. His father is jazz legend and fellow MAMA artist Gerald Wilson,
a major innovator in modern big band writing and orchestration. Now with
three stellar albums to his credit, it is clear that Wilson is one of the
most exciting talents to emerge on the jazz scene in a very long time.
